Ilves goaltender Lukáš Dostál, 19, has been named Liiga’s best goaltender of the season 2019-2020. The vote was made by Finnish ice hockey journalists. Dostál is the second Ilves goalie in history to win the Urpo Ylönen award. The first one was Jukka Tammi who won the award in 1990.
After joining Ilves in February 2019 and putting up a series of impressive performances in the Liiga last season Lukáš Dostál signed a NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks. Dostál returned to Ilves in September and finished the 2019-2020 Liiga season leading the goaltending statistics with 27 regulation time wins. His winning percentage 73,2 was also the best in the league, goals against average 1,78 the second best and save percentage 92,76 the third best.
Dostál represented Czech Republic in three games at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship that were played in his native country at the turn of the year.
Lukáš Dostál was by far the number one vote for ice hockey journalists. He received 39 first-place votes and amassed 244 points in total.
