Forward Colton Beck, 31, and defenseman Daniel Gazda, 24, join Ilves for the remainder of the season.
Colton Beck joins Ilves from the ICEHL (International Central European Hockey League) team Dornbirn Bulldogs. The Canadian forward scored 33 points (13 goals, 20 assists) in 45 games for the Austrian club. Playing his first season in Europe, Beck was the leading scorer and alternate captain of the Dornbirn team. The left-handed forward (180 cm / 85 kg) has scored 42 goals and added 68 assists in 343 AHL games during his years in North America.
Daniel Gazda comes to Ilves from the Czech top league where he played for the PSG Berani Zlín. The defenseman scored 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 47 games this season. He was he leading scorer of his team and led the league’s defensemen in goals scored. The right-handed defenseman (183 cm / 91 kg) has played 191 regular season games and scored 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) in the Czech league. Last season Gazda played seven games and scored one goal for the Czech national team.
Ilves sport director Timo Koskela says Beck and Gazda will strengthen the team with their versatility and specific qualities.
– Colton Beck can play all forward positions. His experience, attitude and work ethic will surely help us during the remainder of the season. Daniel Gazda brings different options to our defense and powerplay. He has an excellent shot and is not afraid to use it. These additions give our team the depth and options we need, says Koskela.
