Ilves forward Jani Nyman has been named to Finland’s roster for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. Chechias team includes Ilves forward Jakub Kos. The World Juniors will be played in Halifax and Moncton, Canada from December 26, 2022 through January 5, 2023.
Finland’s roster for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship was announced today. Ilves forward Jani Nyman, 18, was named to the team after scoring 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in 21 games in the Finnish top league and one goal in four CHL games. He has also registered 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 8 games for the Finnish national U20 team this season.
Finland’s team will travel to Canada on Thursday and will face USA and Canada in practice games on 19 December and 23 December before the tournament. The schedule for the World Juniors can be found here.
Forward Jakub Kos, 19, was named to Chechias team. Kos has played on loan at KOOVEE and scored two goals and seven assists in 15 Mestis games (second highest level in Finnish hockey) this season. The forward has also registered 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in 8 games for the Ilves U20 team and 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 3 games for the Czech national U20 team.
U18 and U17 national team selections
Finland’s national U18 team takes part in a Five Nations tournament in Switzerland 26–30 December. The roster includes Ilves forward Emil Järventie, 17, who has registered two goals and one assist in nine Mestis games for KOOVEE, 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) in 21 games for the Ilves Ilves U20 team and 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 15 games for the Finnish national U20 team.
Defenseman Sebastian Soini, 16, is part of the Finnish national U17 team that plays three games against Czechia in Vierumäki 27–29 December. Soini has scored 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) in 25 games in the Finnish U20 league and 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 10 games for the Finnish national U17 team.
