Ilves defenseman Karri Aho, 19, has been invited to Finland’s U20 national team for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, December 26 – January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada.
The Finnish U20 team, that travels to Edmonton today, saw two late roster changes yesterday. Defenseman Rami Määttä and forward Aatu Räty will not play at the tournament. They have been replaced by defenseman Karri Aho and forward Roni Karvinen.
Karri Aho, who made his debut in the Liiga last season, has represented Ilves in seven games this season. The defenseman has also played 14 Mestis games for KOOVEE (2 goals, 3 assist), two games for Ilves U20 team (5 assists) and eight games for the Finnish U20 team.
Aho’s contract covers this season and includes an option for the 2022–2023 season.
Finland’s roster also includes Ilves academy product Roby Järventie, 19. The forward joined the Ottawa Senators organization after the 2020–2021 Liiga season and signed a three-year entry-level NHL contract in the spring. Järventie has played 21 AHL games with the Belleville Senators and scored 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) this season.
